For years we have owned a vax, one of the high end models that does everything but tell you when to sleep, eat, and crap, I have been a cleaner for over 15 years and the vax used to work wonders, that was until we had to have it in for various replacements, motor, power cord, electronics, buttons, new hoses and cleaning head. The first time we had to get it fixed was about 7 years ago and have had nothing but trouble since.

So one day after fighting with the vax for over an hour to clean my house, wheels falling off the hose taped on, and the head so worn it used to shave the carpet rather than actually clean it we gave in and went shopping for a new vac.

We had seen infomercials for dyson a while back and figured we would go and check them out, we went to our local dealer and tried it out on the store floor, which had no doubt been vacuumed more than 1000 times a day, we were shocked to see how much the dyson picked up, so we tried it on another peice of carpet and oh my god. by the time the sales woman approached we were sold!

It must have been the easiest sale she had made all year, on bringing it home we decided to follow the instructions and vacuum with the vax again, then use the dyson to see the difference, now we vacuum each day due to my allergies – to cat and dog and well basically anything living so naturally we imagined there wouldnt be much cat or dog hair left over from the vax vacuum session.

    Boy were we wrong!!!!
After doing our lounge room (carpet only) the dyson had to be emptied, we slowly made our way around the house saving each canister of dust in a bag for later examination, 3 full plastic shopping bags later we were done.

it has been over 2 weeks since we bought our DC23 turbine head and we still get roughly a full canister each day, I cant beleive how much dirt the fax missed! or rather how much dirt we have been living with for years.

This vacuum is truly awesome, infact we find ourselves becoming involved in a new and … odd pass time, saving and analyzing our vacuum dust we even have sucked up dog hairs from a dog we no longer have…..

The size is compact with no loss in suction from size, the telescopic handle is so well designed im shocked no one else thought of it before, it fits easily into a cup board or small space, the ease of cleaning is absolutely fantastic i love this dyson, if it wasnt illegal and my better half would let me i might consider marrying this little vacuum, unlike my better half I know this dyson will clean my house.

If you want a vacuum that actually works and is so easy to use and clean then a dyson is definately for you.

Btw we paid aus $800 for this little wonder, well worth the outlay for this dust hungry beast.

Just bought the DC23 (turbine head) as we felt our current old vac wasnt doing the job. Not only were we dead right about that, we seem to have solved my wifes hayfever! In the lounge alone we had to empty the cannister six times. Even I do the dusting with the soft brush tool! We thought my wifes allergy was to our cat and were considering getting rid of her as most evenings she would be overcome with constant sneezing and so on. Since purchasing the DC23 2 weeks ago I can only recall her sneezing once since. We also both noticed immediately after vacuuming the first time that the smell of the house changed, it smelt clean and the carpet feels so nice to walk on and sit on. I can now smell dust at 50 paces so when I do, out comes the DC23. We vacuum every 2 or 3 days now whereas before would be lucky to be once a week. Even though its a bit heavy to lug around we find it very convenient to store and carry from room to room with the hose that wraps around. We have quite a few attachments to do the ceiling fans, tops of cupboards, mattresses etc.

This machine is absolutely awesome! I would dearly like to know the difference (if any) between the turbine head and the motorized head.

I just bought the Dyson DC 23 Turbinehead 2 weeks ago for 399.99. I got the asthma and allergy kit for free (64.99). I could tell from the start that this would be a great vac, my husband was in the bedroom sleeping and didn’t know I was even vacuuming. My dog didn’t run for her life either! With my old vac I would get a strange smell, like something was burning, but the Dyson had no odor at all. It took a couple minutes to get used to pushing it around and pulling the canister after me, now I am used to it. I love the versitility, I can use it on carpets then easily switch to hard surfaces in the kitchen and bath. One of the main reasons for getting this vac was the fact that I wanted to install hardwood floors at some point. The suction is awesome, it got so much dog hair!
There are 3 attachments on the vac and the free kit I got came with 3 more, I have used every one of them. My favorite is the soft dusting brush because I can dust my glass table tops and electronic equip. My second favorite is the mattress tool which I used to clean my black couch and loveseat. They look almost new. My husband noticed right away.
One other important point is the fact that I am not dusting again the next day. The filter on the Dyson is amazing. With my old vac I would find a thin layer of dust sometimes later that day!
I though 400.00 might be too much for a vac but I was wrong, this will last for a long, long time. I love this thing!

I don’t get it. My Dyson DC23 picks up a lot, but also leaves lots behind. Stuff that is right on top of the carpet and should be picked up easily. Suction is not that great, although others seems to rave about it. Also, hate the fact that the on/off switch is not on the handle – very inconvenient. I’m sooo disappointed. Sorry, mine is going back.

I’ve been testing out and reviewing the latest models from Dyson. I think I prefer the DC28 and DC25 animal models over the DC23 canister one. I just expected the canister to hold more than an upright, but it doesn’t, which means I ended up spending more time emptying it than I did with the upright.

Very good suction. Powerhead failure because of poor quality hose. The wires break requiring a complete hose replacement.
